About Type West 2019
The inaugural class of Type West spent a year learning the tools and techniques necessary to create original typefaces, from sketch to font. The students engaged in in-depth hands-on instruction in type design history, theory and fundamentals. Taught by working professionals for working professionals, the students learned from the best in the industry including James Edmondson, Grendl Löfkvist, Kel Troughton, Graham Bradley, Christopher Slye, Maria Doreuli, Rod Cavazos and several guest instructors.
At Letterform Archive, Type West students have access to an unparalleled typographic library as they research and create their own original typefaces. Librarians, curators, and other members of the Archive’s knowledgeable staff guide students through thousands of type specimens, reference books, and original examples of lettering and graphic design.
